Following the closing date for expressions of interest, we were unable to fill the intended Top 32 Men and Top 16 Women places in any of the age categories.
Unfortunately, a number of players did not respond to the invitation to confirm whether they were interested in participating, but thanks for all that did express interest. We now intend and are keen to press ahead with the competition and give this new event the opportunity to establish itself.
Please note that this will still be a pilot event, and we will endeavour to make the competition work to the best of our ability. There will, however, remain restrictions on the total number of competitors we can accommodate in each category.
The VETTS English National Championships will be on January 9 &10, 2027 at Grantham Meres Sports Centre – Saturday will be 40s and 60s; Sunday will be 50s and 70s.
We would like to extend the opportunity to any player to enter who meets the following criteria:
• Be a current member of the VETTS Society;
• Hold a British passport or British citizenship;
• Have not participated in a National Championships in another country during the previous three years (from the 2023/24 season to date);
• Have not represented another country in the Veterans Home Nations or any other national/international competition during the previous three years (from the 2023/24 season to date).
We would also like to extend the invitation to players who will be moving into a new age category by the time the Championships are played. Such players are welcome to apply for their new category – players can enter two singles, but they must be consecutive age groups which are played on different days (eg 40s and 50s; 60s and 70s).

The closing date for completion of the form is 23rd October.
Following the closing date, we will review all entries and contact the Top 32 Men and Top 16 Women in each category, where applicable, inviting them to make payment to secure their place.
Payment must be received by 20th November to confirm your place in the competition.
We hope that opening the event up in this way will allow us to attract enough players to make the inaugural VETTS English National Championships a successful and enjoyable competition.
