It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved VETTS legend, Geof Bax. Over a number of years, we have seen him fight his personal battle with cancer, always exhibiting a joy for life. He contracted Covid whilst in hospital, and passed away peacefully at 6pm last night. Sally was so grateful to be able to spend time with him during the day.
At Geof’s request, there will be no funeral but there will be a celebration of his life when it is possible to do so.
A talented player, Geof was a gold medallist in Stockholm 2012, and many of you will recall that he had a starring role in the National Lottery commercial - see link below. Geof will be remembered as a charismatic gentleman with a ready smile and twinkle in his eye, who had time for everyone, offering encouragement and support. Sally has shared with us that Geof also loved his role as an umpire. "He was always very correct. Even at league matches he would call players up for foul serving. Local players would often say 'Oh no', when Geof was due to umpire their matches knowing they couldn't get away with anything". He will be fondly remembered by all.
We send all our love to Sally, his family and friends at this sad time.
